Best Supplements For Women: My Morning & Night Routine

As a mom and athlete, I prioritize high-quality supplements to ensure I get the proper vitamins and minerals I need every day. Here is an honest look into my morning and nighttime supplement routine; and what I take to prevent getting sick.

I’m often asked which supplements I take and which supplement brands I prefer. After years of trying different brands throughout pregnancy, postpartum and injury recovery, I’ve found the best of the best.

As a mom of three littles, I prioritize an easy supplement routine to stay a healthy and strong. A handful of high-quality, well-researched supplements supports my active lifestyle each morning and night.

While I’d love to think that my balanced, fitness-focused and whole-food lifestyle is sufficient on its own, the reality is that there are a few gaps! As a mom, entrepreneur, and content creator who is constantly on the go, I have a few supplements I take daily to fill in the gaps when my diet isn’t sufficient.

Are Daily Supplements Worth It?

Yes! I’ve personally found that having a daily supplement routine has improved my overall energy, athletic performance and hydration levels. It’s also helped with nausea and fatigue during pregnancy and postpartum.

Daily Supplement Benefits:

  • Ensures proper vitamins and minerals to maintain good health
  • Supports joint and mobility comfort, as well as muscle health
  • Boosts athletic performance and recovery
  • Supports sleep and mood

As women, the physiological changes we undergo throughout our life necessitate different nutritional needs at key points in life including adolescence, young adulthood, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and post-menopause.

Below I’ve listed my current morning and night supplement routine (at this stage of life, as a mom of three under the age of six).

If you’re at a different stage of life, you can find women’s health supplements here that are specifically formulated to support the unique nutritional needs you have in your current season.

Supplement Routine For Women

Morning Routine

  1. Women’s Multivitamin: As a busy mom and business owner, finding time to consistently eat the most nutritional meals can be tough. A good multivitamin ensures I am getting my standard vitamins and minerals daily.
  2. Vitamin DEnsures I receive an adequate supply of Vitamin D, especially during the Minnesota winter when I don’t get enough sun exposure.
  3. BioCell Collagen: Supports healthy joint function, comfortable movement, and strong connective tissue while maintaining normal moisture levels in my skin.
  4. Collagen Jelly StickAs we age, collagen production decreases but collagen is a major component of the human body — it’s crucial for skin, hair and nail health. Collagen Peptides Powder is a great alternative to the jelly stick if you’d rather add collagen to water, coffee, or your favorite morning beverage.
  5. LMNT Electrolytes: Most days I need extra energy to manage everything. I drink LMNT electrolytes daily to sustain energy throughout the day (and have better workouts).

Nighttime Routine

  1. ZMA Capsules: Combination of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B-6 designed to maximize absorption and recovery from my daily exercise.
  • Zinc supports the regulation of cellular growth and tissue repair, as well as the maintenance of a healthy immune system.
  • Magnesium is essential for the maintenance of electrolyte balance, energy production and normal neuromuscular function.
  • Vitamin B-6 breaks down glycogen to give the body the glucose fuel needed for physical activity.

Best Supplements: When Feeling Sick

Because I’m raising three little ones — who are often catching a cold — I take extra precautions for myself.

  • Elderberry and Zinc: Elderberry helps support healthy immune function. Zinc supports normal, healthy immune function and provides antioxidant support which is essential to immune function. Both elderberry and zinc combined have been researched for their important nutrients and benefits to defend against viruses.
  • LMNT ElectrolytesWhen feeling sick or fighting an illness, fluids aren’t the only factor. I take LMNT Electrolytes for extra sodium, potassium, magnesium and chloride, which help my body maintain fluid balance and keep my cells working properly. Bonus: get a free sample pack of LMNT with any purchase (so you can try all 8 flavors for free).

Best Supplements for Women FAQs

What Supplements Should Women Take Daily?

To maintain good health and avoid illness and injury, a daily women’s multivitamin is a good choice to include in your routine. Vitamin D supports bone health and the immune system, while collagen is important for healthy joint function, comfortable movement, and strong connective tissue.

What Supplements Should Women Take When Exercising?

I recommend taking electrolytes before, during or after exercise. Taking electrolytes before exercise allows you to stay ahead of dehydration, prevents muscle cramps and injury, and boosts athletic performance.

What Are The Most Important Supplements?

While each vitamin is important and performs a significant function in the body, if I had to choose just three vitamins, I would choose a Women’s Multivitamin, Vitamin D and ZMA Capsules. These supplements are essential for staying healthy and strong.

What Supplements Should You Take When You Start Feeling Sick?

Elderberry and Zinc have been researched for their benefit in supporting healthy immune function to defend against viruses. Drink electrolytes when feeling sick to replenish essential sodium, potassium and magnesium.

Where Can I Buy High-Quality Supplements?

My morning and nighttime supplement routine can be purchased through the NOW Foods website (use discount code: NML) or through Amazon. LMNT electrolytes are only available for purchase directly through their website.

Best Protein Powder

With the number of protein powders available, it can be hard to know if your protein powder is healthy and provides well-rounded nutritional benefits. As a family of athletes, prioritizing protein in our diets is a must. My husband and I love the Creamy Vanilla Egg White Protein from NOW Foods.

This protein powder is made of minimal clean ingredients and has been comprehensively tested to ensure it’s safe for athletes. My go-to quick and easy breakfast is protein oats with milk, one scoop of Egg White Protein, and one scoop of Collagen Peptides Powder topped with berries.

The Unflavored Egg White Protein Powder is a great baking substitute for muffins or energy balls, or as a way to add more protein to coffee, smoothies, or pancakes.
