lululemon Sports Bra FAQs

Should I Size Up in lululemon Bras?

In general, yes. We’ve found lululemon bras tend to run small. For best results, use lululemon’s free bra size quiz to determine what size to get. We included detailed sizing notes for each bra below, but I tend to order one size up in lululemon bras and tops.

Is It OK to Wear A Sports Bra Instead of a Regular Bra?

Yes! You may want to choose a sports bra with low/medium compression rather than extremely high compression for everyday wear. Some of the best options for sports bras that double as everyday bras are variations of the Align Bra. The sweetheart style is particularly well suited for daily wear under t-shirts and blouses.

What’s The Best Sports Bra for Workouts?

That depends on the amount of support you need, as well as the type of workout you’re doing. For example, those looking for a bra for high-impact workouts or running may like the Classic Energy Bra (cup sizes B-D) or High Support Energy Bra (cup sizes B-DDD). Whereas the Align Bras are great for yoga and low impact strength training.

How To Care for a lululemon Sports Bra?

Each piece of apparel from lululemon comes with care instructions for that specific piece. In general, you’ll get the longest life out of your products if you machine wash on cold and air dry. Avoid adding fabric softeners, which can coat the technical fabric and reduce its sweat-wicking capabilities.

Best lululemon Sports Bras (Least Compressive to Most Compressive)

  1. Align Bra. The best bra for daily wear. Buttery soft and all about seamless comfort.
  2. Like A Cloud Bra. Our favorite option if you dislike removable cups – this bra features foam padding instead. Great for yoga and running errands.
  3. Flow Y Bra. Great for low impact workouts. Thin straps fit seamlessly under tank tops.
  4. Energy Bra. The most versatile bra. We use this for everything from low impact workouts to HIIT and running. It even doubles as my swim top! 💜 NML Team Favorite
  5. Wunder Train Bra Top. Although not technically a bra, this tank has a supportive built in bra and secure high neck, making it great for training.

1) Align Bra

Best For: ultimate comfort bra. Our favorite for lounging.

When it comes to comfort, the Align bras can’t be beat. Made out of the same signature Nulu fabric as the iconic Align Leggings, this buttery soft bra is perfect for daily wear and low impact workouts alike.

The Align Bra comes in a variety of fits and cup sizes (noted below). Our favorites are the classic and the sweetheart necklines.

It is worth noting that the C/D cup variations come with removable cup pads, while the A/B cup variations do not (with the exception of the sweetheart neckline, which has removable cups). The cups offer a thicker lining and more coverage, but can fall out in the washing machine.

Sizing Notes: Rachel normally wears a 34B bra, size 8 in lululemon tops, and is pictured wearing a size 8 in the Classic Align A/B Cup. We found the Align bra works best for those with smaller chests. If you have a larger chest or prefer more coverage, go with the C/D cup variation of each style.

Types of Align Bras

  1. Classic (A/B Cup or C/D Cup). The original style of the Align bra features the iconic buttery soft fabric and straight straps that go across the shoulders.
  2. V-Neck (A/B Cup or C/D Cup). This low v-neckline is loved by reviewers for being extremely flattering for smaller chests.
  3. Asymmetrical (A/B Cup or C/D Cup). This trendy one-shoulder option is cute enough to wear as a workout top on its own.
  4. Sweetheart (A/B Cup). The newest addition to the Align line of bras – the sweetheart neckline is so pretty and we love the thin straight straps for everyday wear.

2) Like A Cloud Bra

Best For: the softest bra ever. Perfect for yoga and running errands.

This bra is described as “marshmallow soft” by reviewers, and features foam cups to keep you gently supported and comfortable throughout your day.

This is also a great option if you hate losing removable bra cups in the laundry. Instead of removable cups, the Like A Cloud Bra has lightly padded moulded foam cups.

The smooth texture and minimal seams also makes it the perfect bra to wear under t-shirts.

Sizing Notes: Caroline normally wears a 32B bra, size 4 in lululemon tops, and is pictured wearing a size 4 in the Longline Like A Cloud Bra. If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up.

Types of Like A Cloud Bras

  1. Classic (B/C Cup). The classic style features minimal seams and thin straight straps across the shoulders.
  2. Longline (B/C Cup or D/DD Cup). The longline version of this bra comes in larger cup sizes and includes an “X” shaped strap crossover in the back for additional support.
  3. High Neck (B/C Cup). This high neck variation is perfect for staying secure and covered during down dog and deadlifts.

3) Flow Y Bra

Best For: low impact workouts. Subtle thin straps fit perfectly under racerback tanks.

The Flow Y Bra is one of lululemon’s best known low-impact bras. This classic racerback style is perfect for everything from yoga to strength training.

This bra is lightweight and minimal – it’s designed to minimize distractions to keep you comfortable and focused on your workout. The band is slightly tighter than the Like A Cloud Bra, providing more compression and support. The Flow Y Bra includes pockets for optional, removable cups depending on the amount of coverage you prefer.

Sizing Notes: Megan typically wears a 34C bra, size 8 in lululemon tops, and is pictured wearing a size 8 in the longline Flow Y Bra. If you’re between sizes, or aren’t comfortable with a snug-fitting band, we recommend sizing up.

Types of Flow Y Bras

  1. Classic (A-C Cup). The classic style features minimal seams and thin racerback straps.
  2. Longline (A-C Cup). Additional length makes this bra perfect to wear as a workout top on its own.
  3. Strappy (A-C Cup). The newest addition to the Flow Y line of bras features a high neckline and strappy details.

4) Energy Bra

Best For: the most versatile sports bra. We wear this for everything from yoga to strength training to running.

The Energy Bra is the MVP of sports bras for our team because of how versatile it is. It offers good compression and support without restricting movement or being too tight. It also comes in a high-support version which is great for high impact sports and bigger bust sizes.

This is our go-to bra for everything from NML workouts, to studio classes, to spinning classes, to yoga. It’s breathable and sweat-wicking, and one of the items we continue to repurchase because it’s such a wardrobe staple.

Bonus: Lindsey also wears this bra as a swim top in the summer.

Sizing Notes: Lindsey typically wears a size 34B bra, size 6 in lululemon tops, and is pictured wearing a size 6 in the Longline Energy Bra.

  1. Classic (B-D Cup). The classic strappy-back style is supportive and functional and a pretty detail under tanks. Lindsey’s most worn bra.
  2. Longline (B-D Cup). Additional length adds coverage and security.
  3. High Support (B-DDD Cup). A great option for high-impact and larger chest sizes.

5) Wunder Train Tank

Best For: great support and coverage for high-intensity workouts.

Although it’s not strictly a bra, the Wunder Train Tank deserves a place on our ranking because of how often we wear it during our own workouts.

A supportive built-in bra and a high neckline provides additional coverage through all different types of workouts. It’s also breathable and quick-drying, which is great for sweaty HIIT workouts.

This tank pairs perfectly with the Wunder Train Leggings if you want to make your own matching workout set.

Sizing Notes:  Lindsey typically wears a 34B bra, size 6 in lululemon tops, and is pictured wearing a size 6 in the Racerback Wunder Train Tank.

Types of Wunder Train Bras

  1. Racerback Tank. Our go-to for filming workouts. We love the high neck for more coverage.
  2. Strappy Tank. This variation includes thin straps that sit on your shoulders rather than a racerback.
  3. Longline Bra (C/D Cup). The bra version of our favorite tank. The longline cut is more cropped than the tank version.
