As I pack our bags to head to California bright and early tomorrow morning I’m reminded how much I love traveling, specifically to California.
We’ve been spending summer vacations in California since my husband and I started dating {6 years ago}. Unlike most Minnesotans, we snuggle in all winter long and spend our summers traveling to follow my husband’s beach volleyball tour.
Traveling to California to watch my husband, Tim, removes me from home and from my to-do list. Because I’m the type of person who needs to be removed from home to let go of things sometimes.
I’ve learned ‘date nights in’ usually result in me doing dishes and finding nuks and cranies to clean {can anyone else relate?}.
But getting out of the house, traveling, gazing up at the stars in the sky from a beach brings a new clarity and fullness to life. It usually slows me down, allows me to disconnect, reset, and return home with an attitude of gratitude for all the blessings that surround me.
It’s probably the same reason I feel so refreshed after a Sunday church service, and why going on a business retreat has been on my bucket list for far too long.
Because there’s something profound that happens when we set aside time to remove ourselves from everyday life. It doesn’t have to be traveling to California, but it does have to be getting out of the same four walls of my home gazing upward toward the one who created it all.
Dear God,
I pray that this trip is filled with opportunities to gaze up towards You,taking in all that you’ve created with a heart of gratitude.
