Devotional: It’s a God Thing {John 14:26-27}

‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.’ {John 14:26-27}

I needed to read this verse this week.

Have you ever had those moments where you hear something on the radio, read something, receive an act of kindness from a random stranger, and think, I needed to hear, see, feel that?!

I’ve never ‘heard’ God speak directly to me. But I have had several of those moments where you stop in your tracks and think, ‘this has to be a God thing.’

These moments, I believe, are the Holy Spirit influencing me, moving me, nudging me. These are the moments when I can sense something greater around me, in me.

I’ve had several of those moments lately.

For example, last week I heard about a local charity organization on the radio, then I dreamed up a business idea to feed hungry kids {but could never carry it out}, then I was presented an opportunity to use my existing business to raise funds for this very charity organization, this all happened within a week.

I can’t wait to share more on this, just hold tight, more to come in about two weeks.

This has to be a God thing.

Just like the yoga class I took last Friday, and I rarely take yoga classes {but clearly need to more}; and the instructor started class by saying ‘worry is a useless emotion, it’s a lack of faith in something greater…’

Throughout that class I pondered, ‘Do I really believe I have the power, the wisdom of God living inside me? If so, worry really is a useless emotion.’

Instead I’ve been downplaying the Spirit’s influence in my life. Letting worry play big, and God play small.

The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God within all believers.

The Holy Spirit teaches us {John 14:26}, reminds us of Jesus’ words {John 14:26 + 15:26}, convicts us of sin {John 16:8}, provides truthful insights {John 16:13}, brings glory to God {John 16:14}…and is often behind those, ‘this has to be a God thing’ moments.

Devotional: It’s a God Thing {John 14:26-27}

Dear God,
I believe I have the power, the wisdom, of the Holy Spirit living within me.
Influencer me.
Move me.
Nudge me.
So I am utterly aware that the peace you provide is not beside me, but greater yet, within me.

Inspiration for this post was drawn from week three of Hayley Morgan’s ‘Pennies Are for Wishing’ Bible Study I’m doing {free when you join her email list}. For full context on this verse read John 14:16-31.

  1. I have had these moments so many times since accepting Jesus Christ. What an incredible feeling!

    • They are amazing moments. Sometimes it takes me awhile to catch on, but when I look back I always feel confident it was ‘A God Thing.’ It’s amazing what he can do, if we can just tune in a little more.

  2. I found your website because I’m a gold member with the Get Healthy U Tv and I love Chris Freytag. I’m an instructor and have attended a few of her workshops over the years. However, while I love your workouts and have found them very helpful, your website has become much more than a place to shake up my gym classes. I love your devotionals and it’s a great reminder of how much bigger things there are to think about than squat variations! I also love seeing another fitness professional living out her faith honestly. Thanks for all that you’re putting out there, Lindsey.

    • Amy! Thank you for your kind message. So happy you found me through GHUTV (love our GHUTV Squad + Chris)! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement about my content. Honestly, sharing my faith has held me to a more accountable to be in The Word so really it’s a blessing for me! Thank you so much for following along and your words of encouragement! Lindsey
