After over a decade as a personal trainer, I’ve really honed in on the habits that best support my health and wellness (it’s more than a solid workout routine).

Following a high protein meal plan and getting good sleep have been so important throughout my fitness journey. Making both proper nutrition and sleep a priority has improved my overall health; which has ultimately led to more energy and better workouts.

With three young kids, a truly restful night of sleep is rare. But I’ve been on a mission to improve my sleep quality, so when I heard about the trending sleepy girl mocktail, I knew I had to give it a try.

What Is The Sleepy Girl Mocktail?

A traditional sleepy girl mocktail combines tart cherry juice, magnesium powder and a prebiotic soda or sparkling water. Both the tart cherry juice and magnesium have properties that can help you relax and sleep better.

I knew that my favorite LMNT electrolytes, would be the perfect addition to a sleepy girl mocktail. The combination of sodium, potassium and magnesium in LMNT makes for the perfect ingredient in this night time beverage.

My version of a sleepy girl mocktail is hydrating, packed with electrolytes and antioxidants, and delicious.

Sleepy Girl Mocktail Ingredients

  • LMNT Electrolytes with Magnesium: I used the Citrus Salt flavor in this beverage and love the way it combines with the cherry and lime flavors. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer, so adding a bit of LMNT to this mocktail can help you relax and contribute to a better night’s sleep.
  • Tart Cherry Juice: Tart cherries are naturally high in melatonin, and have anti-inflammatory benefits that can lower stress hormones, making sleep easier and higher quality (Sleep Foundation).
  • Sparkling Water: Adding sparkling water to the LMNT and tart cherry juice mixture really balances the flavors, ensuring this drink isn’t too salty or tart. Topo Chico is my go-to for this recipe!
  • Fresh Lime Juice: A squeeze of fresh lime juice pairs perfectly with the citrus and cherry.
  • Garnish: Make it fancy and fun by serving in your favorite cocktail glass or wine glass, and garnishing with a lime wedge, raspberries and mint!

Why I Love LMNT

LMNT is my go-to electrolyte drink mix, full of clean ingredients — no sugar, coloring, artificial ingredients, gluten or fillers.

As an athlete, I’ve been adding LMNT to my water bottle for years (you can find my full LMNT electrolyte review here). You lose both water and sodium when you sweat, no matter your activity level. Both need to be replaced to prevent muscle cramps, headaches and energy dips.

The electrolytes in LMNT are minerals that conduct electrical charges in your body, maintain fluid balance, aid in blood flow, regulate blood pressure, and influence a wide range of hormones.

LMNT Ingredients

LMNT electrolyte powders contain essential electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium for fluid balance, nerve function, muscle contraction and cellular health.

  • Sodium: helps regulate fluids, nerve function, muscle contractions and nutrient absorption. Each stick pack of LMNT contains 1,000 mg of sodium.
  • Potassium: helps muscles contract, supports healthy blood pressure and supports cell hydration. Each stick pack of LMNT contains 200 mg of potassium.
  • Magnesium: aids in muscle relaxation, energy production, blood sugar levels and heart function. Each stick pack of LMNT contains 60 mg of magnesium.
  • Other Trace Minerals: minerals like zinc, iron and selenium are also found in LMNT.
How Soon Before Bed Should I Make A Sleepy Girl Mocktail?

I personally make my sleepy girl mocktail about one hour before I go to bed. It’s a great beverage to sip on while you finish your nighttime skincare routine or read a book. I’d give the magnesium and melatonin about an hour to work their magic!

How Can I Modify This Recipe If I’m Missing Ingredients?

I recommend using the LMNT Citrus Salt in this mocktail, but Raspberry Salt or Orange Salt would also work well with the tart cherry and lime juice! If you don’t have tart cherry juice on hand, cranberry juice is a good substitute.
