As a mom of three energetic kids, I’m constantly seeking ways to create a healthier environment for my family, from the food we eat to the products we use on our bodies. One small, simple change that’s had a positive impact on my daily life has been the switch to natural deodorant. After some trial and error, this is my honest review of the five best natural deodorants.
I never gave much thought to what was in my deodorant until I started nursing my first baby. When I read the ingredient list on my deodorant label I discovered was a laundry list of chemicals that left me feeling uneasy, especially considering how close my new baby was to them each day.
From baking soda-based formulas to soothing blends of essential oils, there seemed to be a natural deodorant for every preference and skin type.
Transitioning to natural deodorants wasn’t just about eliminating harmful ingredients—it was also about finding a product that actually worked. With three kids to chase after and a busy schedule to juggle, the last thing I needed was a deodorant that couldn’t keep up.
The most effective natural deodorant for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect match. I have personally had success with aluminum-free deodorants including Hume SuperNatural, Native, Primally Pure, Lume and Megababe.
Why Should You Use Natural Deodorants?
Using natural deodorants can help you avoid harmful chemicals like aluminum, parabens, and phthalates, which have been linked to potential health risks. These products are gentler on sensitive skin and often utilize plant-based ingredients to provide effective odor protection without the use of harsh chemicals.
Do Natural Deodorants Actually Work?
Yes! Natural deodorants can be highly effective, but there may be an adjustment period. Once your underarms have detoxed from traditional antiperspirant, you should experience more effective odor protection from natural deodorants.
How Long Does It Take To Adjust To Natural Deodorant?
Adjusting to natural deodorant can vary person to person, but it typically takes 2-4 weeks for your body to fully adapt. During this transition period, you might experience temporary changes in sweat glands and odor as your body detoxifies and adjusts to the natural ingredients. It’s important to give your body time to acclimate and continue using natural deodorant consistently for best results.
Where Can I Purchase Natural Deodorants?
Hume SuperNatural can be purchased directly through their website (use discount code: NOURISH10) and Primally Pure can be purchased directly through their website (use discount code: NOURISHMOVELOVE10). All of my other favorite natural deodorants can be purchased through Amazon.
5 Best Natural Deodorants
Best Natural Deodorants
After doing a full analysis and sweat test, our team is sharing our final list of the best natural deodorants in order (number one being our favorite and number five being our least favorite).
A full report of each deodorant, including ingredients, cost, and more is outlined below.
Megababe. This is my favorite natural deodorant. When I apply this one, it goes on clear and feels so clean. This is the first deodorant I have tried where I have experienced zero underarm irritation (even after shaving). 💜 NML Team Favorite
Hume SuperNatural. Favorite clean ingredient natural deodorant for everyday wear. This gel deodorant feels clean and smooth when applied. On non-workout days I only need one application, but on days I workout I have to apply again to cover odor.
Native. Most accessible natural deodorant brand (can be found at most convenience stores). After using Native for a year I started to noticed my body odor and a slight irritation.
Primally Pure.Best long-lasting natural deodorant for sensitive skin. Held up for me on a full day of filming workouts, but it does not go on clear and easily gets on clothing.
Lume. Goes on clean but the texture leaves your armpits feeling wet and moist all day. I personally didn’t smell fresh all day and had to reapply.

Thank you for the reviews. I have tried tons of natural deodorants over the years. I quickly learned I cannot use any with baking soda. You list Primarily Pure as baking soda free but it does have some baking soda in it. It may be a small amount but that didn’t seem to matter to my pits. I have been a Lume user but never made it the whole day. It worked better than most. I have never tried megababe. That will be on my next amazon order. Thanks!
Rebecca! I’m so glad you found this post helpful and thanks for letting me know that primally pure does include baking soda — we’ll get that updated. And I’ve seriously been loving MegaBabe and I hope you do to! -Lindsey
I really appreciate the reviews that NML mixes in with workouts. They are always helpful. I recently started using Native and like it, but don’t love it, so now I have some info to help me try a few other brands. Thank you!
Emma! So glad you find these review posts helpful! I was also using Native but felt like I almost became immune to it; so decided it was time to switch things up — glad we did this review and I found my new favorite natural deodorant! Thanks for reading! -Lindsey
Great review article, thanks! Have been struggling with my aluminium-free dove deodorant since having my second baby, and trying to find something new. This is just what I needed!
Tori! So glad you found this post helpful — and having a baby is what prompted me to get on the natural deodorant train as well! Thanks for checking out this post and following along! Lindsey!
