DIY Build a Burger Bar: Healthy Grilled Burgers, Served 3 Ways

For the sake of pleasing a crowd we are showing you how to serve grilled burgers three ways, including:

  1. Classic All-American Turkey Burger
  2. BBQ Cowboy Burger
  3. California Veggie Burger

I’ve outlined each of these three recipes in greater detail below. But for the sake of showing you just how simple creating a DIY burger bar is, here are the 5 staple you’ll need to include in your burger bar:

  • Burger Base — in this case we’re using beef, turkey, and veggie burgers; but you can always adapt based on your audience. And these can me homemade, from your local butcher or grocery store.
  • Buns Or Lettuce Wraps
  • Fresh Produce + Veggie Toppings — tomatoes, lettuce, onion, avocado, and anything else you might want to add.
  • Optional Dairy — cheese options like cheddar, swiss, colby or pepper jack cheese.
  • Condiments + Sauces — ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, and mayo. I personally love Primal Kitchen! Their condiments and sauces are made with real ingredients, Whole30-approved, Keto-friendly, and delicious.

Grilled Burger Recipe #1: The All-American Burger

American Burger Recipe | turkey burger recipe

  • Burger Base — I personally used pre-made turkey burger patties. You can make this American burger using beef or veggie burgers as well.
  • Buns — I used a sprouted, whole grain bun. You can make this American burger using gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps too.
  • Toppings — lettuce, tomato, grilled red onion, American cheese.
  • Condiments — Primal Kitchen’s Organic, Unsweetened Ketchup and Spicy Brown Mustard. Primal Kitchen has the cleanest ketchup label I’ve ever seen, with an ingredient list including — Organic Tomato Concentrate, Organic Balsamic Vinegar, Less than 2% of Salt, Organic Onion Powder, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Spices. That’s right NO ADDED sugars or sweeteners!

Grilled Burger Recipe #2: The BBQ Cowboy Burger

  • Burger Base — I made simple beef burgers {full recipe below}. Again, you can use whatever burger base you prefer, turkey or veggie burgers would also work, as well as bison burgers.
  • Buns — I used a sprouted, whole grain bun. You can make this cowboy burger using gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps too.
  • Toppings — lettuce, tomato, grilled red onion, Colby jack cheese.
  • Condiments — Primal Kitchen’s Organic, Unsweetened Classic BBQ Sauce. Most BBQ sauces you’ll find in the grocery store are loaded with sugar, but this one has NO ADDED sugar or sweeteners. Click here to view the full ingredient list.

  • Burger Base — I personally used pre-made veggie burger patties. If you’re looking to make your own veggie burgers, I love this recipe for Roasted Garlic Black Bean Quinoa Burgers from Fit Foodie Finds. I also love this Salmon Burger from The Real Food RD’s. Again, you can use whatever burger base you prefer, turkey or beef burgers would also work.
  • Lettuce Wrap — I used a romaine lettuce wrap. You can make this California burger using a sprouted, whole grain bun or gluten-free bun too.
  • Toppings — tomato, grilled red onion, avocado and sprouts.
  • Condiments — Primal Kitchen’s Avocado Oil Mayo. The perfect way to add some flavor and healthy fats to your veggie burger. Again I love this mayo for it’s clean and Keto-friendly ingredient list — Avocado Oil, Organic Eggs, Organic Egg Yolks, Organic Vinegar, Sea Salt, Organic Rosemary Extract.

There you have it, healthy grilled burgers, served three ways. All you have to do it grill the burgers and set out the 5 base ingredients for the burger bar and ask your guests to bring a side salad or slaw.
