I’m a big fan of green smoothies, and it’s been way too long since I’ve shared a new green smoothie recipe. So in honor of Spring and all things turning green, I’m sharing one of my favorite citrus smoothie blends.
I get that some of you are avoiding the green smoothie trend because you’d rather ‘chew your food.’ I totally get it. Trust me, I love to eat too. But I’m happy to say I’ve converted several friends, family members, and online training program participants into green smoothie making machines. Seriously, both my dad and husband now start their days with green smoothies. A battle a never thought I would win, and a testament to the fact that green smoothies actually taste delicious if made right!
I mean have you seen the smoothie bowls on Instagram lately? Um, Yum! But have you ever wondered how many grams is in one of those over-the-top, drool-worthy bowls? Before you know it you can be consuming up to 40 grams of sugar in one bowl.
Which is why I love this grapefruit ginger citrus green smoothie recipe. It’s the perfect blend of proteins, fats and carbs, to create a low sugar, yet sweet and tasty smoothie. Great for anyone on a low sugar or anti-candida diet.
In fact, grapefruit is one of the fruits lowest in sugar on the glycemic index.
I like to start my day with an early morning workout followed by a protein-and-nutrient rich green smoothie, just like this grapefruit ginger citrus green smoothie. It’s simple, fresh, low sugar, vegan, and dairy free!
The best part, it’s only six ingredients and loaded with nutrients, minerals, vitamins and protein! I like to add a scoop of Vega Protein + Greens {natural flavor} to mine for an extra boost. Especially because I’m usually enjoying my smoothie post workout.
Which is another reason I love green smoothies, I can blend it up the night before and just grab and go as I head out the door at 5am. I workout and then have an instant refuel with my green smoothie and I’m energized and ready to take on the day!

What type of blender do you use?
Hi Scarlett! I use a Vitamix and I LOVE it! But you can really use any high speed blender! Hope that helps. -xo-Lindsey
