Naughty or Nice? Trail Mix Holiday Cookie Balls {+ my love affair with trail mix}

‘Tis the season for holiday treats and since I’m all about balance I’m decking the halls with Naughty + Nice Balls. Make these no-bake trail mix balls ooey-gooey-chocolatey {naughty} or fruity-nutty-and-a-little-spicy {nice}

trail mix balls. yes, i said trail mix balls. enough said. skip to the recipe, get in your kitchen and within 10 minutes you can be eating trail mix balls! then come back and enjoy your balls while reading the intimate details of my divorce fight chronicled below.

let me start by saying i’m very happily married to my handsome husband. in fact, we’re newlyweds who just returned from punta cana {aka our second honeymoon} so things are really good if you know what i’m saying.

but we all have a divorce fight. you know that one fight that sticks out in your mind that you really haven’t forgotten. maybe you can even laugh about it now because you were being a bit ridiculous. well my clever friend termed ‘that one fight’ the divorce fight.

and here’s my shameless divorce fight that my husband still brings up almost every time i ask him to pick up a bag of trail mix.

if you don’t know, i love trail mix. like so much that i once almost started crying when my husband brought home a snack-sized bag of trail mix. you know, the kind you buy at the gas station; the 6 oz bag with a label that reads 4-6 servings. really? you’re telling me i’m supposed to share this tiny bag with 3 other people?!

yes, that’s what my husband was telling me. long story short, we were having a movie night with another couple and i knew i was going to have to share this tiny, 6 oz bag of sweet and salty goodness with three other people…so naturally i started crying and we had to go to the gas station and get another bag {or two} of trail mix.

ok i didn’t actual cry but i did way over react and throw a completely irrational, toddler-style tantrum. {#thattimeofthemonth #hormones #irrationalwoman}.

needless to say my husband, bless his soul, never comes home with just one 6 oz bag of trail mix anymore.

sharing this story is slightly embarrassing and clearly i need to read Proverbs 25:28 and Galatians 5:22-23 a couple more times. but the moral of the story — save yourself the trouble of a family quarrel at christmas and make a double batch of these healthy treats. and in spirit of the holiday’s generously share them.

you can make one batch nice with cinnamon spice for afternoon snacking. and another batch naughty and chocolatey for after-dinner indulgence {bonus they’re really not that naughty so enjoy these wholesome healthy fats guilt-free}.

*no oven or cookie cutters required, but christmas music must be playing in the kitchen while you roll the dough into balls {michael buble’s holiday tunes are highly recommended}.

**these two recipes were inspired by my pumpkin balls which have been my most popular recipe yet!

    • Elizabeth! These are my favorite and total go-to when I need to curb my sweet tooth too! Seriously I always keep a gallon-sized bag in the freezer of balls – great grab and go or quick post-dinner sweet tooth fix! Glad you enjoyed them and thanks for sharing! xo-Lindsey

    • Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I’ve been playing with a couple different website plugins to make my recipes printable, good to know that you value that. I’ve found lots of people prefer pinning vs. printing, but good to know that you want print! I’ll get to work on it. Thank you!

  2. I made the nice trail mix holiday cookie balls and I LOVE them. I made my dad try them also and he loves them and wants me to make him a batch. These balls will be great for the farming season for him! Thanks so much for sharing.
