I’m posting my very first cocktail recipe; because Fourth of July weekend is upon us and there’s no place I’d rather be than on a boat sipping a cocktail! Who’s with me?! ???
I absolutely love the Fourth of July. It means a whole weekend at the lake with my family — wake boarding, pontooning, campfiring…and if you know my family, lots of competitively played games of bean bags and dice over cocktails.
I’m all about adding a healthy twist to, well, pretty much everything I consume. So I thought, why not make a ‘healthier’ cocktail to celebrate my favorite holiday weekend at the lake. And since it’s frowned upon to drink alone, I teamed up with Dietitian Stacie, from The Real Food Dietitians, to bring you not one, but two healthy cocktail recipes!
If you follow Stacie {@staciehassingrd} or I {@lindseybomgren} on snapchat you’ve been dreaming about these blackberry basil and strawberry mojito kombucha cocktails for the past couple weeks.
It always amazes me how my overwhelming to-do list shrivels up and evaporates into thin air after a good belly laugh {and cocktail or two} with girlfriends. And a couple weeks ago, when Stac was in town to work on these recipes, was no exception.
To be completely honest, I’ve kind of been a basket-case lately. I’ve got my hand in a lot of different pots to try and make a living as a fitness entrepreneur and I’ve got a thing for spreading myself too thin. Finding work-life balance has always been my achilles heel {hence writing this blog post at 11pm}. And that’s why God put Stacie in my life {at baggage claim of all places, where we initially met}.
We all need someone in our lives who can 100% relate to what we’re going through, whether it’s starting a business or trying to regulate your crazy lady hormones. And Stacie is my 100% who always helps ground me and remind me that although we’re striving for future goals, we’ve got to enjoy the journey happening right now.
My long-winded point is, I hope you get a chance to truly unwind this weekend. To step away from the chaos of life, get present, and enjoy spending time with loved ones.
Ok, that was deep for a cocktail recipe blog. Time to lighten things up with some refreshing, fizzy, no-sugar added, kombucha cocktails!
blackberry basil kombucha cocktail {or mocktail}
A refreshing summer cocktail made with kombucha, blackberry and fresh basil from my herb garden!
Kombucha is a naturally carbonated, fermented tea that contains gut-healthy probiotic bacteria. For this recipe I used GT’s original kombucha {with only 2 grams of sugar}.
I love sipping on kombucha on it’s own, but add some ripe summer berries, fresh herbs, a shot of vodka, a splash of sparkling water and you have a sweet sipper that won’t leave you with gut-rot or a sugar hangover.
Of course if cocktails aren’t your thing you can easily turn this into a mocktail by omitting the vodka or rum.
Cheers to the Fourth of July weekend!
And don’t forget to head over to Stacie’s blog to get her Strawberry Mojito Kombucha Cocktail recipe.
